ASEAN Strengthens Strategic Dialogue and Diplomatic Cooperation with Kuwait and China

June , 2026 : ASEAN has continued its regional and international diplomatic engagement through a series of high-level activities involving strategic dialogue, cooperation with Kuwait, and engagement with China.

ASEAN Secretary-General Joins Inaugural Phnom Penh Strategic Dialogue

2nd June : Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn participated in the inaugural Phnom Penh Strategic Dialogue in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The dialogue was convened by the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace, a member of the ASEAN Institutes of Strategic and International Studies network.

During his keynote address, Dr. Kao highlighted ASEAN’s role in navigating an increasingly complex and fragmented strategic environment. He said ASEAN’s ability to respond to regional and global challenges is supported by unity among ASEAN member states and a continued commitment to dialogue and cooperation.


ASEAN and Kuwait Discuss Stronger Cooperation Through ASEAN-GCC Framework

In a separate engagement, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Political-Security Community, Dato’ Astanah Abdul Aziz, met with the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to ASEAN, Khalid Jassim Alyassin, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat.

The meeting focused on ways to further strengthen relations between ASEAN and Kuwait. Both sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation, including through the wider ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council framework.

The discussion also covered the implementation of the Joint Statement of the ASEAN-GCC Summits and the ASEAN-GCC Framework of Cooperation 2024–2028. These were adopted by leaders at the First ASEAN-GCC Summit held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in October 2023.


ASEAN Secretary-General Attends China-Hosted Working Dinner in Cambodia

ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn also attended a working dinner hosted by the Ambassador of China to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The engagement reflected ASEAN’s continued diplomatic interaction with regional partners.
