GENEVA – The International Labour Organization (ILO) is set to open its 356th Governing Body Session at its Geneva headquarters, running from March 23 to April 2, 2026. As the organization’s executive council, the body will gather to address critical policy shifts and evaluate global labor standards.
A primary focus of the summit will be the ILO’s role within an evolving multilateral landscape. High on the agenda is a review of the Organization’s financial health and the ongoing execution of internal reform measures aimed at boosting operational efficiency.
Key Agenda Highlights
The session is expected to cover several high-stakes initiatives:
- Future Development Roadmap: Members will deliberate on the Development Cooperation Strategy for 2026 – 29, which establishes the framework for global partnerships and the promotion of decent work.
- Global Supply Chains: The council will explore new initiatives designed to bolster international labor standards and ensure worker protections and ethical business practices throughout global supply networks.
- Ending Workplace Violence: Following the conclusion of the 2019-2025 strategy to eradicate violence and harassment in the world of work, the body will assess the progress achieved and determine the next phase of action.
Regional Oversight and Governance
The Governing Body will also maintain its supervisory role by examining specific labor developments in several nations. Progress reports and resolution follow-ups are scheduled for Belarus, Myanmar, Venezuela, Bangladesh, Nicaragua, Saudi Arabia, and Chile.
As the executive arm of the ILO, this body meets three times annually (March, June, and November) to steer the Organization’s policy direction, determine the budget, and set the agenda for the International Labour Conference.
